Om tryambakam yajamahe sugandhim pushtivardhanam Urvarukamiva bandhanan mrityor mukshiya maamritat
Translation: "We worship the three-eyed One (Lord Shiva) who is fragrant and who nourishes all beings. May He liberate me from death, for the sake of immortality, even as the cucumber is severed from its bondage to the creeper."

व्याख्या: इस मंत्र में त्र्यम्बक शिव का पूजन किया गया है, जो तीन आंखों वाले होते हैं। यह शिव मृत्यु का नाश करने वाले कहलाते हैं। इस मंत्र में सुगन्धित और सभी प्राणियों के लिए पोषण करने वाले तीन आंखों वाले शिव का वंदन किया गया है। मन्त्र के अंतिम दो पंक्तियों में मृत्यु से मुक्ति के लिए बिना किसी संबंध से ककड़ी को कटा जाना संदर्भित होता है।
